Clayton Area Rescue was established in 1963, and remained in the original facility at 219 South Barbour Street, in Clayton, for 41 years. Additional ambulance bays were added to the original building in 1980. The old bays were converted to office space and living quarters. Through the years, the building was subject to flooding whenever there was a heavy rain downpour. Carpet, furniture and medical supplies were constantly subject to damage as waters often rose to two feet or higher.

Since then, with the continued population explosion seen in Western Johnston County, Clayton Area Rescue has continued to add both crews and EMS units to meet the demands.
In early 2004, we were fortunate to realize a long-time dream of constructing and moving into a brand-new EMS station, located on Robertson Street in Clayton.
Most recently, we have begun providing service to the Corinth Holders community. We have a unit stationed 24/7 at the Corinth Holders Fire Department.
For the past year, CAR has be placing and unit in the Cleveland Community during the day-time shift to shorten response times. We are currently looking for a location to build a permanent facility there.
